When a partial ban on smoking goes into effect June 14 in Jeffersonville, the author of the new law won't be looking for publicity. Barbara Wilson, who engineered the ban last year, said it was one of the most significant pieces of legislation she has written since joining the City Council in 1993.

That's according to a new U.S. study that finds that lung cancer patients who have never smoked respond best to chemotherapy and have a better chance of survival compared to current smokers, or patients who smoked in the past.
