Rockford house blaze blamed on smoking (Rockford Register Star)
ROCKFORD Careless smoking was the likely cause of a house fire early Wednesday in the 5200 block of Village Court. Occupants said a smoke detector alerted them of the 2:09 a.m. blaze. All occupants escaped without injury. Firefighters arrived at 2:14 a.m. to find smoke and flames coming from the two-story house. The fire caused about $80,000 in damage.
