PURSUANT to Republic Act 9211, the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003, June of every year is being observed as "No-Smoking Month" in the country. During this month, the Department of Health leads campaigns aimed at encouraging smokers to give up their bad habit.

Free phones for young who quit smoking (TVNZ)
Cellphone giveaways are to be used to encourage more young people to give up smoking. The Health Research Council has allocated $1.5 million to Auckland University researchers to design a stop smoking programme of video and text messaging aimed at 18- to 24-year-olds.

On The Bright Side: Bassett employees quit smoking before workplace ban (The Daily Star)
An upcoming ban on smoking at two area hospitals encouraged at least two workers at one of the facilities to quit. Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown and A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta are banning smoking by everyone at their campuses starting July 1.
