quit smoking cough phlegm

So how long can it take your lungs to get rid of tar after quitting smoking?

I left last November, has been 8 months and still coughing small black specks in phlegm. I asked my doc. and he said it was normal, as he had been chain smoking 6 years before leaving smoking. How long does withdrawal symptoms when you stop smoking? Should I get a second opinion? I can breathe fine and everything, only one excess of tar-stained phlegm in it.

That's rough as guts. Chain smoking for 6 years … thats horror.
