"Prescription drugs help with the physical symptoms of quitting?
I've been smoking a pack a day for three years and I think it's time to quit. It's hard, but can not handle the psychological problems. I have problems with physical symptoms. If I go 12 hours with a cigarette, I start with nausea and just keeps getting worse. Smoking makes it better, but only a few hours. I want to lower nicotine as soon as possible so I'd rather not use the patch or gum chewing. I've seen a couple of stop smoking prescription drugs Chantix and Zyban. How effective are they? They will help with nausea?
From all that I have read and seen the best chance of quitting is using one of the medications you mention – any of Chantix or Zyban (Wellbutrin) combined with some type of replacement as nicotine patches or gum, and a program for smoking cessation support. Chantix is reatively again, but the intitial reports are very promising. I know several people who have used successfully, including my sister-in-law, who smoked more than 25 years. You may want to see out his website – www.chantix.com. Talk to your doc. The "cold turkey" method works for some people but not many. Good luck!
Some good advice from one of our clients on Qutting Smoking.
