Side effects of Zyban?
I have decided to quit. I have an appointment with my doctor today to discuss this and also the possibility Zyban being released. I tried quitting cold turkey more times than he can count and I heard that Zyban helps people quit smoking, sometimes, within 2 weeks of taking the medicine. I understand that Zyban is really Welbutrain (I hope written on the right), an antidepressant, which was found to help users quit and has since been repackaged as Zyban. My concern is about side effects. I found websites that mentioned side effects that sound much more horrible that the effects of smoking. I have read of those taking the drug went through depression, could not eat, eat too much, could not sleep, decreased libido sex, headaches, and anger issues. Has anyone taken this medication and side effects bad? I really would like any information you have! Thanks!
I took Wellbutrin when I did quit smoking several years ago. By the time they smoked slightly more than 3 packs a day and when I started the Wellbutrin From immediately fell to less than a pack a day, literally cut my desire that much. However, it seems to work for everyone. The only side effect that has been sweating profusely for about 60 minutes to 1 hour after taking each dose, but I think it was largely because, when taken in combination with another drug that caused sweating too. Never heard of decreased sexual function due to Wellbutrin, since it is not effect of serotonin and is actually given to combat the known sexual side effects associated with SSRIs, so it certainly would not worry about that. As for other side effects, I've never felt anxious or difficulty sleep, but the problems have never been to me, for starters, although I know that some people have certainly noticed both increase initially. Side effects, when manifest, usually clear within a couple of weeks. If you are a smoker, I think it's absolutely worth trying and New York State is now offereing free Rx to supply it for about 6 weeks.
