Starting a small business is very valuable, but having the opportunity that can lead to glory and wealth. Many people want to take the plunge into self-employment, but the fear of failure can be a serious impediment.
If you are thinking of starting a small business will need to be sure of a couple of things. I would like bring out what I think the three most important issues to address.
1) Money. Do you have enough capital to start your business, have money to operate his business for three months and also have enough money to support yourself and your family for six months? Most likely you will need that cash unless a rich uncle.
2) Business Plan. Have you done market research for your business? Many people do not because they think they have this stellar idea to open a business, but the target market simply is not there. Make sure you see if you want to do is something the public wants to buy. If you are selling a service, see that there is a necessity. If you're selling products, make sure it is something that sells well enough with enough of a profit margin for a living.
3) Do you have a "Plan B"? Many would say that to have the idea of a Plan B in the back of your mind is negative thinking. I say it's smart thinking and should be considered from the outset of his business plan process. When taking into account that three of our four businesses fail, you really should be prepared to put a plan B into action if necessary.
Some of what I wrote can be considered harsh, but as a successful businessman, I know some of the pitfalls and I am sure would like to see you avoid them.
